November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and for me, it’s a reminder that sometimes fear can push us to make the changes we need most.

When I found out I was prediabetic, I was scared.

Not just worried, but truly scared of what could happen if I didn’t take my health seriously. I thought about the complications that can come with diabetes. I thought about my family, my future, and all the things I still want to do in life.

That diagnosis was my wake-up call.

I knew I couldn’t ignore it anymore, and I couldn’t keep putting my health on the back burner. I decided it was time to make changes before prediabetes became something more serious.

One of the biggest goals I set for myself was to lose weight and become more active. It sounds simple, but when you’re juggling work, motherhood, chronic pain, and everyday life, making healthy changes can feel overwhelming.

I wasn’t looking for perfection. I was simply looking for a place to start.

That’s when I found water aerobics.

What started as a way to exercise became so much more than that.

Water aerobics changed my life. Being in the water made it easier for me to move without putting extra strain on my body. It gave me a way to stay active while working around my physical limitations.

For the first time in a long time, I didn’t dread exercising.

It became my escape.

My stress relief.

My time for myself.

My chance to keep moving forward, one class at a time.

As I stayed committed, I started seeing progress. Every class, every healthy choice, and every small step felt like I was investing in a healthier future. Best of all, my A1C started to improve, reminding me that even small changes can make a big difference.

But as life often does, things changed.

My schedule changed, too.

The routine I had worked so hard to build became harder to maintain. My days went from being consistent to being all over the place. I quickly realized that if I wanted to stay on track, I had to think differently.

I had to make healthier food choices.

I had to plan ahead when I could.

I had to learn how to adjust when life got busy.

It wasn’t always easy, but it taught me something important: healthy living isn’t about being perfect. It’s about doing the best you can with where you are and continuing to move forward, even when life gets messy.

For me, Diabetes Awareness Month is about more than learning about a disease. It’s about prevention. It’s about making changes before it’s too late. It’s about realizing that every healthy choice matters.

If you’re on a similar journey, I want you to know that you don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to be perfect.

You just have to start.

One healthy choice.

One workout.

One walk.

One class.

One day at a time.

What started as fear became motivation. What started as a diagnosis became an opportunity to take better care of myself.

And for that, I’m grateful.

💙 This Diabetes Awareness Month, let’s encourage each other to know our numbers, take care of our health, make healthier choices, and remember that every step forward matters. No matter how small, progress is still progress. 💙
